T. J. Haugh has created works of art for over 30 years.  He works in oil, watercolor, pastel and a  wide variety of other media for drawing and painting.  He has exhibited at various venues and original fine art galleries in the Southeast and online for the past 15 years.  Most recently, he has expanded his artistic output by taking up the printmaker's art (to view his fine art prints, please click on any “prints” text link on any page in this online fine art gallery.)  Below are brief points of interest about this original fine artist and the works displayed in his online fine art gallery.

HISTORY:  Although T. J. Haugh's current body of work focuses on the female figure, the artist's previous work was done from a series of character studies of people riding the TRAIN.  These original fine art paintings were widely exhibited in galleries and collected.  They spoke to the human condition in a powerful and simple manner that is a hallmark of the artist in all his artistic endeavors.  In conjunction with this, the artist also produced an assortment of landscapes and other subject matter that he considers ARCHIVAL. (To see works from these series, press the appropriate button or hyper text link in this online original fine art gallery now.)

PRINTS: In an effort to expand his artistic range, the artist has recently created a series of handcrafted fine art prints (i.e, hand-pulled direct transfer process.)  He has chosen the hand pulled and labor intensive manual methods of printing such as woodblock, linocut and serigraphy, over the mechanized and commercialized  varieties such as inkjet ( referred to as giclee ) and offset lithography.  This allows the artist to work directly with the piece as it is produced, and insures that the print's quality and originality are undiminished.  Each of the fine art print series, as well as the individual prints, are done on acid free, high quality, fine art papers.  Each piece in this online gallery is an orginal fine art composition composed for a specific print run.  They are not merely reproductions of another original art work by the artist.  They are original fine art works in their own right.  T. J. Haugh is particularly fascinated with the textured surface that is imparted onto the paper using his block and screen techniques.  This gives the original art works found in this online gallery a painterly feeling, and as it is that they are done in small quantity, limited edition lots, it increases their value as orginal fine art works.  He hopes the works in his online original fine art gallery, bring as much joy to art lovers as they have to him.

PASTELS: The artist’s pastels and drawings found in his online fine art gallery, are at the heart of the painting and prints of nudes that the artist has created throughout his artistic experimentations.  Drawn from life, they are done on acid free paper, and like the print series in this gallery, they stand as original works on their own. The use of colored pastel paper and the mixing of mediums such as Conte' crayon, pastels and charcoal is a common practice for the artist.  These figure studies follow in the tradition of artist though the ages.  As works on their own, or as tools in the artist's studies, the fine art nude is a cornerstone in the advancement of Western art and its figurative basis.

THE BLUE SERIES: In this series of original fine art oil paintings, the artist uses the traditional fine art nude in a manner that it is atypical of the genre.  While respecting the aesthetic power of this subject, the artist has generated through the representation of the female figure a means to explore a host of psychological, artistic and social  concepts.  The nude metaphorically strips away the pretense that might cloak a subject, as the viewer feels empathetically the sense of being bare themselves.  Although this is disquieting to some, it is only through reflection and release that we get in touch with our basic humanity.  Original Fine Art has the ability to facilitate our awareness in ourselves, in others and in the worlds in which we live. The artist is proud to be a part of such a process, and sincerely hopes that those who view his work will appreciate its intent, purpose and basic beauty.  Please enjoy your visit to T.J. Haugh’s online orignal fine art gallery.
